Nursery Preparation For The New Bundle Of Joy
It is always exciting welcoming a new baby to the family and part of the excitement is nursery preparation. It is especially exciting if the baby is the first arrival. Mom and dad will probably have lots of help with grandparents and aunts and uncles and friends wanting to pitch in and help. There will no doubt be a baby shower that will add necessary items for the new addition such as clothes and toys.
Preparing the nursery is the most part of the process. Picking out furniture and choosing colors to paint or wallpaper with will be very exciting. Before starting the nursery project, it will be helpful to have a plan in place. Decide a theme and color scheme for the nursery and build around the theme and colors. It is the goal to have the room all ready when the new little one makes its arrival. The theme and colors may be for a specific gender if the sex of the baby is known. If the sex of the baby will be a surprise, the theme and colors might be something neutral that compliment either a boy or girl.
Furniture will probably be the number two spot on the list. The essential pieces of furniture are a changing table, crib, hamper, dresser, toy box and perhaps a bookcase. The location of the crib is critical as it should be in an area where the temperature will remain somewhat constant and is accessible by as many sides as possible. The middle of the room away from windows is a workable place or diagonally to a corner. A round crib seems to make the most sense, but a rectangular crib has worked for many a year. The changing table and dresser should be together, or a dresser that doubles as a changing table will be a space saver. Mom certainly wants to economize her steps when getting the baby ready for the day. Hamper and a diaper pail might be positioned close to the door for easy access. A toy box and book case can fit anywhere in the room. Do not forget to save a corner of the room for a rocking chair for those late-night feedings and calming sessions.
Before the baby arrives, baby proof the room as much as possible. While the baby will not be toddling around for a while, might as well complete that task while work is being performed on the room. Cover the electric outlets and make sure windows have secure child proof locks. If the windows will be open in the nice weather, be sure a secure screen is in place. Any sharp corners on the furniture should be added to protect from bumps and bruises. In anticipation of the baby being a climber, consider bolting furniture such as the book case and dresser in place.
It is never too early to start nursery preparations for the new arrival. In order for the room to be fresh, paint and wallpaper as soon as possible, preferably making that the first order of business. Even though there will be months and months before the baby arrive, time will pass very quickly and suddenly there will be a new arrival being welcomed home for the first time.
